Dubai to ban single-use plastic, paper bags

Dubai plans to prohibit the use of single-use plastic and paper bags starting from June 1st

Starting June 1, Dubai will enforce a citywide ban on single-use bags, encompassing both plastic and paper, at retail stores.

Stores are not mandated to provide free alternatives.

Shoppers are urged to bring their own reusable bags.

Dubai Municipality has issued an awareness guide, prohibiting bags, including biodegradable ones, due to concerns about microplastic pollution.

Certain bags like bread bags and trash bin liners are exempt from the ban.

Non-compliance carries a Dh200 penalty, doubling for repeat offenses, up to a maximum of Dh2,000, applicable to individuals, businesses, and institutions alike.
