President Zardari has given the go-ahead for the dismissal of Supreme Court Justice (retd) Mazahar Ali Naqvi

President Asif Ali Zardari has given the go-ahead for the dismissal of Supreme Court Justice (retd) Mazahar Ali Naqvi, following findings of misconduct by the Supreme Judicial Council earlier this month.

The Ministry of Law and Justice has issued an official notification for Justice Naqvi’s removal, effective from January 10, 2024.

This decision comes after an earlier notification of Justice Naqvi’s resignation was withdrawn. Justice Naqvi had resigned in January amidst misconduct allegations, which led to questions regarding his departure.

Despite his resignation, the SJC found him guilty of misconduct after conducting over two months of proceedings, suggesting he should have been removed before resigning.

The SJC concluded that Justice Naqvi was guilty of misconduct and recommended his removal from the office of Judge.

This decision underscores the apex court’s stance that misconduct proceedings by the SJC will continue even after a judge’s resignation or retirement.
