Shabnim Ismail Hits 130kmph Bowling Milestone

Shabnim Ismail, the sole Muslim woman to have played for South Africa’s team, previously held the record as well.

Delhi: South African cricketer Shabnim Ismail has made history by becoming the first female bowler to deliver a ball at a speed of 130 kilometers per hour (kmph).

Shabnim, the sole Muslim woman to have represented South Africa in international cricket, achieved this remarkable feat during a match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League.

The league’s second season is currently underway in Bengaluru and Delhi, India.

Representing the Mumbai Indians, Shabnim bowled the second ball of the third over at a lightning-fast speed of 132.1 kmph at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. Her delivery targeted Australian captain Meg Lanning, striking her pads.

This is not the first time Shabnim has left a mark with her incredible pace. She previously held the record for bowling at 128 kmph against West Indies in 2016.

Additionally, she has clocked speeds of 127 kmph twice during matches in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Women’s World Cup.
